It is sometimes necessary to turn off caching on certain pages on a Drupal site. This might be when trying to do something out of the ordinary, like write information to a file, or randomly generate a section of a template. The following code can be used to turn off caching just on the front page of the site.

Netbeans is a great IDE and with every version lots more features are introduced that make it even better. One thing that I like to use is the code templates, which have been available from version 6.5. Code templates allows you to type a simple command and get a section of code. What commands you can use depend on what version of Netbeans you are using and which programming language you focused on. As a PHP developer I usually download the PHP version, which comes with a set of PHP code templates.

A common practice when setting up a Wordpress blog might be to create a page and display posts in a certain category on that page. This causes some pages to act very much like category pages.

The first step in creating a page of posts is to create a page template that can be used by the pages. Create a file in your template directory called pageofposts.php and put the following comment in it.

The Poll module is a useful little module that comes with Drupal and allows the addition of simple polls to pages or blocks. The default behaviour of the module is to record one vote per IP address or user, which is fine for normal uses but in some situations it does tend to fall over.

A tag cloud is a name for a collection of keywords that are displayed as a big block of text. Usually the most commonly occurring keyword is the largest, and the least commonly occurring keyword is the smallest. Tag clouds are a neat way of allowing your users to navigate your content in a different way, simply be letting them look over the cloud and linking each keyword to sections of your site that contain that word.

One neat thing about Wordpress is the ability to add images to your posts in a quick and easy manner. You can also create thumbnails of larger images and link to them using a captioned image. The only problem is that when you have sorted out how your images look in your post in the admin section they just don't appear the same in your template once you have published it.
